This 1993 Techno classic gets reworked by Green Velvet & Phil Kieran.
Vocals by Rev. Trotter of the southside of Chicago.

Interested in making something totally different from his Cajmere moniker and other stuff, Green Velvet created Relief as an offshoot to his Cajual records in 1993. The first Relief release was also his first Green Velvet production, 1993′s ‘Velvet Tracks’ which came from a name given to him by a girlfriend’s dad, emerged as the flamboyant, neon-haired electro punk.

He now boasts releases on many recognised labels including Perc Trax, Viva Music, Soma, Synewave, Harthouse, 8 Sided Dice, Analytictrail aswell as recently starting his own label Sleaze Records.

We hooked up with Hans Bouffmyhre on the eve of his debut release on Electric Deluxe. Steven is a young man from Paisley with a healthy obsession for techno music. He started off his career in 2006 when he began to promote his own party in Glasgow called ‘Sleaze’, he booked and played alongside some of the worlds best techno acts including the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Funk D’ Void, Chloe, Radio Slave, Johannes Heil, Extrawelt, Phil Kieran, Len Faki & Par Grindvik!”

He now boasts releases on many recognised labels including Perc Trax, Viva Music, Soma, Synewave, Harthouse, 8 Sided Dice, Analytictrail aswell as recently starting his own label Sleaze Records.

So far Hans’ tracks have gained huge support & plays from some of the biggest names in Techno, including Speedy J, Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Adam Beyer, Len Faki, Marco Carola, Steve Lawler, Laurent Garnier, Stephan Bodzin, Joris Voorn and many more!

At only 24 years of age and with a list of releases as long as his arm, the future looks bright for future star Hans Bouffmyhre.. So onto the Q’s

How did you start producing and when?

I picked up a copy of Reason 3.0 in 2007 and started messing around with sounds and making my own loops. About a year later I felt that I was making tracks that were good enough to play and release, soon after I started my own label Sleaze Records, to help showcase my own productions.

What is your approach to putting the tracks together in the studio?

I always start off by getting a nice deep and pounding kick/bass combination and then try to create a catchy synth line. I then add some percussion, maybe hats, rides or claps and once I have all of the desired sounds ready, I start to map it all out on the sequencer. Most of my productions are aimed at the dancefloor. To be honest I’m not really the experimental type and like to make tracks that I can play out!

Can you describe your sound?

It’s dark, repetitive, pounding, club-oriented music!

Can you reference some of your influences?

One of my biggest influences was attending Soma Records ‘Pressure’ events in Glasgow. I used to go every month without fail when I was 18/19. Memorable sets from guys like Jeff Mills, Adam Beyer and of course Slam stick in my mind very vividly. Watching some of them perform inspired me to become a DJ & producer myself.

What do you listen to when you are not producing music?

When I’m not producing I’m normally still listening to techno! Whether it’s podcasts, demos, promos, I listen to a lot of techno music. When I’m having a rare break from the techno I like to listen to old bands like the Stone Roses, Joy Division, The Doors, Pink Floyd and many others. It reminds me of my teenage years as a stoner!

What have been your gig highlights of the last 6 months?

The last year has been great for me in terms of gigs. One of the biggest highlights was making my debut at Berghain last November! It’s a great club with a really special atmosphere and I look forward to playing again in the future.

Who surprises you the most when you play with them? Who is pulling out records that you don’t know?

I’d have to say Gary Beck! I’m lucky enough to play with him quite regularly and every time he drops one of his new tracks I’m like “What is that? You need to send it to me!” haha!

Tell us about the process with your new ep for electric deluxe

When I finished the title track ‘Hypnosis’ I knew there was something special about it. I played it a few times at my gigs and it worked very well for me. I decided to send the EP to Jochem, because I thought it might be a good match for his style. Just a few weeks later I played with Jochem at Tony Rohr’s Birthday party in Frankfurt and he played the track as part of his set, which was great to see!

Swimming are now touring Europe with The Megaphonic Thrift, leading to the release of a new double A-side single, All Things Made New / I Do (Come True).

We hooked up with Sam Potter sci-fi programmer from the legendary late of the pier who is now working with Binaural pioneers Swimming signed to Tummy Touch records to find out what he has been upto recently and to find out more about his ‘blackout’ project.

So you have recently joined Swimming how did that come about and what are you upto at the moment?

I met John and his with Ronika a few months ago and haven’t left their house since really. It only made sense to follow in all their endevours, which has bought me to Europe at the minute.

Tell us about the blackout, the concept, when is the next show?

Blackout is there to provide a space for musicians to progress creatively by giving them anonymous status, and giving the audiences the chance to experience music in a heightened state (in the pitch black).

My next show is more of a showcase of the idea at the Broadway Cinema in Nottingham 1st April, I’m using it more in the listening club scenario, playing unreleased material from some of the more forward thinking labels to people in the pitch black. To let people know about what’s happening to them physically and the interesting science that’s affecting them I have sonic artist and Swimming collaborator Dallas Simpson giving a little talk.

Look out for a few full Blackout productions in the next few months.

here we go, all info here;
http://www.broadway.org.uk/events/film_blackout

and here’s the facebook event:

http://www.facebook.com/events/315390115182698/

What are you listening to at the moment when you are not making music?

Lots of really sonic stuff like Ryuchi Sakamoto, a Japanese pioneer from 1972 who sounds just as fresh as Joy O. Listen from 1.07 if you don’t have the stomach for the intro; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7Y3Cl4cnr4

What was your first album you purchased your not embarassed to tell us about?

My first tape I bought was california love by 2pac and dre (my second was enya but I shouldn’t be saying that)

Your now working with Binaural Pioneers Swimming, for people that don’t know can you tell us about the binaural experience and how these shows are put together?

The experience is so hard to describe without actually experiencing it or having some examples at hand to help. That’s part of the beauty of it, you have to be there to experience it. In short, the audience are seated in another room and in a way borrow Dallas’s ears, and experience things as he does. People might have heard the headphone trick where it sounds like a barber is shaving off your hair, what we do is an extension of this technique, making a fully 3 dimensional listening experience that takes people away from a usual gig environment.

Thanks Sam…

Swimming are now touring Europe with The Megaphonic Thrift, leading to the release of a new double A-side single, All Things Made New / I Do (Come True).

Mountblood. It’s one of those names that catches your eye, and rightfully so. The mysterious alias of Texas born producer Steven Molina, Mountblood is the latest of a handful of talented young producers pushing the boundaries of 21st century technology, experimenting with and blending elements of dubstep, electro, and house. The result? A daring, fresh mash-up of hectic, rebellious street beats that are truly in a genre of their own.

A relative youngster on the scene, Mountblood has already made a name for himself amongst an A-list roster of colleagues, playing alongside Das Racist, Bloc Party, Dillon Francis, Skrillex, 12th Planet, Neon Indian, & Bart B more, to name a few. In 2011, he had the honor of gracing the stage during the Dallas installment of the US’s premiere EDM festival, Electric Daisy Carnival.

Since relocating to New York from South Africa, Moeller has spent the last twenty years cultivating his dub techno legacy. As Beat Pharmacy and Echologist he has employed jazz, afrobeat and psychedelic semblances to redefine Basic Channel foundations, whilst producing a stockpile of records under his own name for labels like Echocord, Mule and Third Ear Recordings.

In 2009 Moeller launched Steadfast, which has continued to be a platform for his more diverse projects—including the deep house collaboration with Chicago-based Area, as Lightness, and his last Echologist album, Subterranean.

Taken from Works scheduled for release in April 2012 —Moeller’s idiosyncratic reflection upon “the spirit of techno —“Wanderer” nods to the genre’s dark and industrial side, whilst it’s crashing hats and surging bass allude to Berlin and the artist’s fomented Berghain affiliation. Growling, guttural strata and robotic peals further cement it as one of Moeller’s more dystopian creations and most driving effort to date. Jonas Kopp toughens “Wanderer” into one of his signature marching workouts, sliced with urgent stabs. Tommy Four Seven on the other hand picks up the track’s shimmering melody—at the fore in its pre-mastered state, made available here in digital form—and tousles it with his distinctive bone-crushing beatwork and crunchy, field-generated padding.

The Wanderer EP will also be released on vinyl in an exclusive package with the Album. The second ep from the album should be out end of March.

Look out for more info on Brendon’s Fix A Track project where he will be taking submissions and working on tracks from producers worldwide, the idea is Brendon will pic a track to fix/finnish from the submisisons, the final project will be released a free tutorial style video showcasing Brendons work on the selected track he picks to work on. Submissions will be made through a soundcloud dropbox, more info to follow soon keep an eye on resident advisor news for the competition start date and release.

Today bass head extraordinaire, and perennial firefly favourite Elite Force announced and launched the much anticipated RVMPD2 Project. Little was known about what it would actually entail until the very last minute, when a website with a big fuck-off countdown reached it’s target and the project was born.

RVMPD2 is basically a peaktime excursion through Elite Force’s unique record bag taking in artists as diverse as Primal Scream, Skrillex, Chemical Brothers, Zoo Brazil, Thomas Bangalter, Basement Jaxx & even Adele. You’ll also find the likes of Flux Pavillion, Stanton Warriors, Doctor P, Umek, Muse and Nero, duelling for bass-space on this utterly infectious mix (sure to appear at a later date we think!).

Apparently sixty-two mash-ups have made their way into Elite Force’s sets since the advent of the original, award-winning ‘Revamped’ album back in 2010, with 19 of these making the final ‘RVMPD2’ mix.

Possibly the biggest deal of all about RVMPD2 though is that almost all of these tracks will be available as FREE DOWNLOADS with one new track being added each Tuesday from the official download page, which takes the campaign well into June!

We’ve had a sneak preview, and as with the first album these are all tracks of genuine top quality … so don’t snooze on it & get the first in the series now [Thomas Bangalter, Elite Force, Mord Fustang - Lick The Scratch] at

http://www.eliteforcemusic.com/RVMPD2

There’s also a wicked video that was released a few days prior to RVMPD2′s launch … check it out on Elite Force’s Youtube Channel : http://www.youtube.com/djeliteforce

Meanwhile, don’t sleep on the man’s recent ‘Jackpot EP’ which dropped at Beatport a few days back. It’s a surefire belter and perfectly epitomises the man’s forward-thinking attitude to all aspects of bass culture.

He started Phil Kieran Recordings 14 months ago, and already has 12 releases under his belt with remixes from esteemed artists such as Adam Beyer, Green Velvet and Jamie Jones.

We hooked up with Kieran as he toils away on his as yet untitled second album project. Having released tunes on some of the world’s finest labels, how does it feel being your own boss?

“It’s been great, I am so glad I followed through with it, it is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done in music. I have my own freedom musically for the first time.

I don’t have to convince label bosses that my music is
up to scratch anymore; if it feels good to me I have a place to put it out.

“I also find myself being more
creative than before. And regarding all the remix names I’ve as a result had the pleasure of working with – it is a dream
come true for me.”

You seem to be enjoying collaborating with artists like Green Velvet and Speedy J, and you reworked a Gary Numan track I Can’t Stop recently. How did these projects come about?

“Each one has a different story. I’ve just been working really hard in the studio, and in the last year I’ve had more output than ever before and it all feels good. Green Velvet and Speedy J are both people I have got friendly with from traveling and DJing. I first knew their music as a teenager and a huge fan, so it’s a really great to be working with some heroes of mine.
“The Gary Numan connection came about from me sampling one of
his first releases. I know a guy in his band called Ade Fenton who is also a DJ, so it was easier to clear the sample. Gary likes the track I made so that’s a bonus.”

Japanese Popstars, Psycatron, Cashier No9 and David Holmes are just some of the Northern artists who have been creating a big noise internationally. Can you explain why the Belfast scene is so healthy?

“No particular reason I can think of. There is so much happening. There seems to be a bit of a buzz here at the
moment and I think there are some high standards being set, which means people have a good benchmark
to aim for. For the small population here I think we really have something to be proud of with our achievements.”

Any news on the new album you are working on?

“I’m sure it’s the best thing I’ve done so far. I’m only a few weeks away from completion, am just at the final mixing stage and it all feels very exciting.

“I’m sure it’s not what people will expect from me. It’s all quite slow, very musical and song structured. I’m singing on most
of the tracks but also have another male vocalist and two female vocalists, along with guitar, bass guitar, cello,
live percussion , harmonica etc. All will be revealed very soon.”

Two Brisbane boys rise to this week's occasion, cueing up a set of brutal tracks sure to tout some red lining

We just love Earmilk due to their Impeccable taste. This is what they had to say about our boys ‘Loops’…

Two Brisbane boys rise to this week’s occasion, cueing up a set of brutal tracks sure to tout some red lining. Arming the decks, The Loops Of Fury are a duo based out of London noted from their sweat drenched remixes that support the likes of Sound Of Stereo, Steve Aoki, and Moby. Amongst other successes such as basking in the Beatport Top 3 with their single debute “Flick the Switch”, the two have been honoured by their household heros Armand Van Helden, Erol Alkan, The Bloody Beetroots, and even graced with an edit of their track “I Need” by none other than 2ManyDJs. But dubbed by the Dewaeles is just the start, The Loops Of Fury are gearing up for future projects of a bigger scale. Exploring divergent avenues of sounds while drumming up the right package for the peak time dance floor. Their diversity branching out of their gritty electro decor can be heard in a remix featuring TWR72‘s percussive heavy minimalism and other selections like the sinister techno rerub of the 2010 summer hit “Lemonade” by Paris’ 4am menace Gessafelstein. Germany’s Lektroluv makes it’s presence well known with the boys dishing out the thrashing label’s latest work from Mumbai Science and Modek while Ed Banger Records provides the tape with timeless licks from Justice remixed by Brodinski and an overlooked original by (rest in peace) Carte Blanche. A mix not to be taken lightly and definitely on the hard edge of this series. The transitions feel seamless and continue to break expectations as each drop ousts itself in energy and jive. Diving deep into acid waters the tape swims out with a head smashing original by Tommy Trash and closing with one of their own, a cheeky but effective mashup between the Chemical Brothers, Boys Noize, and Bart B More.

After an amazing year for Phil Kieran Recordings, and destroying the charts with series#01, Kieran is back with a new EP ‘light’

Strobe light
If you want to chill out, forget about it. this record is not for your granny’s consumption. its intense , full on and out of control , and full of what is commonly lost these days , its fun . “strobe light” is built for the discotheque, with. phil’s signature library sounds carefully placed over the mix to give it an abstract feel with all the energy still there to keep the floor full. this is a killer !

Moon Light
A polar opposite to the lead track, this flips it over into a deep, tender , luscious melodic track with an intense feeling , as it says in the title , its time to reflect. Drums in or Drums out you choose .

Label: Phil Kieran Recordings
Artists: Phil Kieran..
Compilation Title: ‘Light”
Pre Release Date: 14th february

Fake Blood – I really like the Drums Out version of Moon Light. And Strobe Light is good too. Those strange bent notes in the breakdown
are great!
